TEXT:   1KINGS 11:1-11

Solomon’s greatness as a ruler was ultimately destroyed by the divided loyalties his foreign wives brought into the kingdom. Rather than leading his wives to follow the true and living God, he became corrupted by their pagan practices. He even built temples for their hideous gods. Practicing these religions involved sacrifice to and worship of false gods. This shows how far Solomon strayed from following the Lord.

The pressure to compromise essential values in order to preserve a relationship can be strong. Do family relationship, work responsibilities, hobbies, habits, career pursuit, personal indulgences, friend a rebellious child, an unbelieving spouse or other relatives or church activities claim too much of your time or attention and compete with your devotion to God. Remember that no relationship should be allowed to drag you away from obedience to God. Avoid any entanglement that might turn your heart away from the Lord.

PRAYER: My heavenly father, I plead, by your mercy, that you help me not to allow anything, anyone or any situation to so entangle my heart to turn me away from you in Christ’s Name I pray. Amen.
