TEXT: MATTHEW 6: 9-13
This prayer is universally called “The Lord’s prayer.” Jesus used this prayer to teach His disciples the right way to pray, in verse 5, Jesus spoke against using prayer to impress people around us as this will make us hypocrites. He spoke against reciting formula prayers repeatedly (vs.7) as the heathen would pray. Jesus teaching on prayer is meant to effect reforms that are needed in our manner of prayer life. It helps us to avoid many wrong ideas and false teachings on prayer. Do you tend to make prayers that are long and elaborate? Has your prayer life degenerated into a means of impressing others? Have your prayers become too self-centered? Or has it degenerated into mere repetition? The same stock over and over again without meaning, there is a pattern for effectual fervent prayer that produces result any other pattern may draw men’s applause but what is the guarantee it will unlock the gates of heaven?
PRAYER: Lord, help me see Jesus the author and the finisher, help me watch his attitude to prayer and give myself wholeheartedly to it
