TEXT:   PSALM 51: 1-9

Repentance is a change of heart and a change of direction. It involves a determination to stop sinning and not to sin in future. The psalmist prayed a prayer and we should learn how to pray this prayer. When you commit sin, REPENT. From this passage, the prayer of repentance is personal not collective. David used the following statements and if we will repent, let us forget our sense if importance. David used the following words (i) Have mercy upon me (not on us), (ii) Wash me (iii) Cleanse me from my sin (iv) I acknowledge my transgressions (v) Purge me with hyssop and (vi) Blot out all my iniquities. The prayer of repentance emphasizes a corresponding change of heart and character to the one whom we have offended ‘Against thee, thee only have I sinned, every sin no matter how inconsequential is against and makes us enemies of God it calls me the offender and God the offended.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to have a change of heart that is sincere, true and total
