TEXT: 1CORINTHIANS 9:1-15
While it is a good thing to give from what God has blessed us with, it is also important that we should give cheerfully. Even if we give to our fellow human beings and they get to know that we are complaining about it, they would not be happy.
Whenever we have the opportunity to give, either to our fellow beings or in the house of God, we should do it happily and not with complaints. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says – each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. An act done cheerfully is done with a happy heart. When we are giving in the church, it should be done with a genuine smile and not with a bad temper. We should know that when we cheerfully give, God will bless us in abundance. When we give joyfully we should put our eye on a greater reward in heaven with Jesus.
Let us also remember what Jesus said: “give and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over will be put into your lap”. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you (Luke 6:38). This act of giving is expected to make us obedient and to feel good and bring joy. We should therefore cultivate the habit of giving cheerfully to God and even our neighbours.
PRAYER: Make me a cheerful giver in all circumstances in Jesus’ name. Amen
