PROPORTIONAL GIVING

TEXT:   1CORINTHIANS 16:1-11

The work of the Lord would be enhanced through proportional giving from individuals and even different churches. A situation in question here is during a period when the Christians in Jerusalem needed support from other Christians maybe because of famine and persecution. This proportional giving initiated by Paul was usually collected on Sundays as offerings. People gave according to their capacities. It was a method of setting aside some money gotten in a week for Sunday offering.

However, Paul ensured that what was collected was appropriately accounted for. Timothy was to take same to Jerusalem or along with Paul himself. This shows that we should be ready to give through offerings, to ensure the growth of the work of the Lord. Are we not failing in our responsibilities if we fail to give our proportional offering? How many of us give our proportional offerings on Sundays in our church? Are we not evading our proportional offerings? Is what we give proportional to God’s blessings for us throughout the week? May the Lord help us to be able to give proportionately our offerings on Sundays. Deuteronomy 16:16-17 clearly states-that ‘No man should appear before the Lord empty-handed. Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you.

Also Philippians 3:10-19 emphasized this systematic method of giving.

PRAYER: Bless me, God that I will be able to fulfill my act of proportional giving towards your work in Jesus name. Amen.
