THE PSALMIST’S HOPE

TEXT:   PSALM 6:1-11

It is believed that this is the first lamentation of David to God because of his heart concerning the enemies. He expressed anxiety, fear, and sorrow in his words. It is possible that he was in that sickness for a long time so he questioned God on his timing. “How long?” Just as many of us do today? He declared his weariness and tiredness in prayer. Some people today may say also that I am tired of praying about a particular issue. It is really hard; we go through trials and tribulations these days and may feel the same way. When such things happen to us, we feel pain but let us remember that our hope is in God alone and that we should wait on him.

David also believes in God’s discipline though we do not know what David did to warrant such discipline. Proverbs 3:11-12 says “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest his correction; for whom the Lord loves he corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” We should therefore be ready for God’s discipline at all times but we should always plead for his mercy as David did.

David also made clear that we cannot praise God after death in the grave. We should therefore do all we can while we are alive to praise and worship him.

David concluded that God had already heard his cry and would answer him and his enemies would be turned back in disgrace.

PRAYER: Be merciful to me oh Lord, when I am being chastised in Jesus’ name Amen.
