THE ANCIENT HOPE

TEXT: – JOB 19:19-29

Job detailed how God’s actions have hurt him. This represents his shout-outs as a conversation between Job and his friends. He was pleading for understanding from his friends (v.21). He felt that his friends were also persecuting him as he was being persecuted by God (v.22). He wished that his words be inscribed on scrolls for future reference because; he perceived that he was going to die.

He made appeals for deliverance from all the things he was going through a redeemer. The word redeemer points to somebody who could help him out of his troubles. He however believes that he will see God himself after death. This is an indication of life after death and appearance before God. This is also groundwork for Christians as a proof text of resurrection. Job knew that, death was not the end of the existence of man, but man would someday stand in the presence of his redeemer and see him with his own eyes. (Read Mathew 5:8)

What then should be our attitude as Christians to the challenges that come our way in life? Should we give up or remain strong as Job? Christians are being persecuted and rejected even today. Let us not be discouraged in our faithfulness to God. We should be happy when we are persecuted for Christ’s sake as long as we know that we have not done anything wrong for such. God has promised us a great reward in heaven. He is also ready to redeem us.

PRAYER: Father God, grant me the grace to be able to stand firm for you even when there is persecution in Jesus’ name. Amen.
