TEXT: PROV 6:20-35
Solomon had tried all possible pleasures of man, including sex (Ecc,2), and came to the conclusion that it was all vain and meaningless (Ecc 1:2,14:2:11,17,26,3:9:4:416:9:12:8,20). He later devoted many verses of his wisdom book (Proverbs) to advices on the sin of adultery & fornication. And he should know: what with his 1000 women! He passionately often begins his counsel against this sin severally with “My son” as it to attract and beg for his reader’s undivided attention.
Most sins have eternal consequences but the sin of adultery fornication has damaging consequences here on earth also Solomon pleads for the young man especially should heed parents time tested advise, especially against this terrible sin. In verses 27 to 35, he describes most practically the risk to limb, body and life an adulterer exposes himself. There are other consequences that we may have experienced or seen in our own society today.
PRAYER: Lord help me to guard what I think in my heart that all that I hear, see and do will bring glory to your name, in Christ’s name. Amen
