A GOOD SERVICE FOR JESUS

TEXT: MATTHEW 26::3-16

Jesus categorically told His disciples in verse 2 that He would be delivered up to be crucified “However, before this took place a woman anointed Jesus with a “very costly fragrant oil” to signify His death. What type of anointing oil are we using today? What does it signify. Remember the oil was not meant to protect him. One is taken aback that the disciples, who had been so close to Jesus all through his ministry didn’t appreciate what the woman did. Rather they felt angry, insulted and even ashamed. They saw what Jesus himself described as “a good work” as “a waste” because they saw it with selfish, human eyes rather than spiritual (preserving the dead body of Jesus)

In vv 14 and 15 Judas Iscariot took a step to do another type of ‘service’ or ‘work’ which though may be seen as ‘bad work’ but is ‘good’ because without the betrayal arrest and death of Jesus, His ministry on earth would not have been completed.

Did Jesus commend Judas for what he has done? Therefore be careful of what you are doing as a follower of Jesus Christ in your church.

PRAYER: Pray that the Holy Spirit will uphold you to engage in “good and acceptable work” for the people.
