LUKE 2:21-24
After a baby was born, the Jewish families went through several ceremonies and one of it was circumcision. Every male child must go through this process of being circumcised on the eighth day after birth. Circumcision symbolized the Jewish separation from the gentiles and their unique relationship with God. The second is the “Redemption of the Firstborn”. A firstborn son was presented to God one month after the birth, the ceremony included buying back the child from God through an offering (Redeeming). This way the parents acknowledged that the child belongs to God who alone has the power to give life. The parents of Jesus also presented him to the Lord, it is very important that after birth we present our children to the Lord for dedication in the church. Also present ourselves (bodies) to the Lord as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable (Rom. 12:1-2). The presentation or dedication of your child (ren) in UMCA is very important. If you are yet to do it as parents it is very important .
