TEXT: LUKE 15:11-32
The parable of the lost son popularly referred to as the prodigal son has deep lessons for us including repentance and grace for salvation. The parable can be linked to the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin.
Pertaining to repentance, the younger had remorse for his misbehavior and humbly begged for acceptance into the family fold. The self-justification of the elder son made him to forget the importance of grace needed for salvation which is not just by works. Like the preceding parables of the lost sheep and coin, the angels in heaven rejoice over every new soul saved and the backslidden ones that have returned to the fold of the true church of God. Let us always learn to apply the wordings of the song of Fanny J. Crosby thus “Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save”.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus give me a compassionate heart to always seek souls for your kingdom.
