TEXT:   GENESIS 13:7-13

In our text, we can see the humility of Abraham. He is a peace loving person who decided to live peaceably with everyone. However, with God’s blessings to him and Lot, the space was getting smaller and this led to disagreement among their servants. The call for separation was a test for both Abraham and Lot. Lot would have entreated his uncle but because of lust for material benefits, he chose the supposed green and fertile land ignoring the notorious reputation of its inhabitant, the people of Sodom. Sodom consists of a group of people who throughout history were synonymous with immorality. Lot failed to consider the non-material elements in Sodom and their effect on our ability to follow God. Lot equally failed to realize that he was blessed because of Abraham.

Our flare for material gain has blindfolded many eyes in the household of God and this lands us where we are at present in this nation. It is unfortunate that Lot did not only loose the materials he acquired in Sodom but also lost his wife. Vanity of vanity, all is vanity!

PRAYER: Father, please open my inner eyes and let me see clearly what you have for me in life so that I will not because of greed and lust lose my inheritance in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
