TEXT: JOHN 17:1-21
John 17 contains the greatest prayer ever prayed on the earth and the greatest prayer ever recorded in the scripture. This prayer was broken into three parts (i) Jesus prays to be glorified (vv. 1-5), (ii) Jesus prays for His disciples (vv. 6–19) and (iii) Jesus prays for all the believers (vv. 20-26). Jesus looked towards heaven and prayed, what is your posture when you pray? Whom do you look up to as you commune with the father? Your heart disposition is important each time we want to pray. Jesus prays for Himself as he heads towards suffering and to be crucified. What a beautiful reminder that the prayer for oneself isn’t a selfish one. Jesus prayed for the disciples “Holy father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.” God desires unity and sanctification in all believers. He wants the world to know Him, ‘and this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent (v. 3)
PRAYER: Lord, enlarge my heart that I may rightly perceive what the true burden of the Lord is that I may not be slack nor withhold myself from holy use
