TEXT: GENESIS 28:10-22
This passage shows how Jacob makes a vow to God. He made this vow after waking up from a sleep where he saw angels ascending and descending from heaven in which God promised him multiple blessings. The Vow was with a condition that if God would be with him and watch over him and give him food and clothing so that he returns safely to his father’s household. Jacob promised to give God a tenth of all God would give him.
It is important to note that God had already made all these promises to Jacob when he said that
– The land on which you lie I will give to you
– I am with you and will keep you in all places
– will bring you back to this land
God has promised us that he will be with us and will bless us with all the things we may need. Is it protection, material things, sound health or what? What are we doing with God’s promises? Do we really believe him?
Jacob made three promises in his vow
Jacob immediately renamed the place ‘Bethel’ thus fulfilling one of his vows. This shows that Jacob did not doubt what God had promised him.
Some lessons;, here points to the fact that
– Do not make vows if you know you will not fulfill them.
– Do not doubt God on His promises, you only need to believe and have faith.
PRAYER: Help me to be faithful in the payment of my tithe for whatever you bless me with Oh God in Jesus name. Amen.
