FOLLOWING A FAR OFF

TEXT:   LUKE 22:54-62

Following afar means that there was a great distance between them. This means that Peter was not following Jesus closely. There are times when some Christians follow Christ from afar off because of their behavior when they are in the midst of friends and colleagues. They say things that are not expected from true believers. They join in certain activities that should not be done by Christians and yet claim that they are with Jesus. At times problems and persecution would make some people deny Jesus.

Peter denied Jesus because of the fear of what the people around would say; when he was confronted by the little girl and the other two people. Are we not also denying him when we are confronted with a little problem, particularly in our daily endeavors? Following Christ was the effect of Peter’s faith but to follow him afar off at this time was the fruit of fear, and the effect of frailty.

These are the lessons to be learnt from Peter’s denial of Jesus:

  1. Never allow temptations to separate you from Jesus Christ.
  2. Try by all means to avoid bad company or to be among Christ’s enemies. This will help us to escape temptations to sin.

iii. When we have fallen into sin we should not allow a repetition of such but confess and run from such sin.

  1. We should not be afraid to tell the people confronting us that we belong to Jesus Christ no matter the situation we find ourselves in

PRAYER: I shall not deny you Lord Jesus. Help me to be able to stand for You even at this difficult time through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
