TEXT: LUKE 8:27-30
The man in question here was demon-possessed and lived a solitary life as dictated by the legions in the isolated burial ground. It is possible the man was living normally like other people before he became possessed. The legions took over the man’s life but were able to recognize the Lord Jesus and described Him as “the son of the most High God. When Jesus asked the man who he was, the demons took over to answer Jesus as proof that they were in control (Mark 5:9).
After the man was delivered from the legions, he decided to follow Jesus Christ but Christ asked him to go to his people as people who came later were drawn to Jesus by the man’s confession of what Jesus had done for him.
It is important to point out that all sinners are demon-possessed and until we encounter the power of the Lord Jesus in life we cannot be living normal life as the children of God are expected to. This shows that we need healing and deliverance from our situation as sinners. The Lord will like us to turn and receive forgiveness of sin without which we are completely lost and demon-possessed in our daily activities. When we truly repent, then we will be able to live the life of Christ Jesus and would be able to carry on with the Lord’s command.
The demon-possessed man wanted to stay and follow Jesus but he asked him to go to his people to proclaim what Jesus had done in his life. So also, Jesus wants us to be witnesses for him in our society, telling the people what we received from him. We should also demonstrate the same by forsaking our sinful nature and behaving as born-again believers.
PRAYER: Oh God, protect me from all the demons of this society so that I will be free from sin. Amen.
