CHRIST AND HIS FOLLOWERS

TEXT:  LUKE 9:49-58, 61-62

To be a follower of Christ is to strive to conform our actions, conduct, and lives to those of the Savior. It is to acquire virtues and be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Through His actions and specifically miracles, Jesus taught important lessons about faith, kindness and God’s ability to make great things from our most humble offerings.

There are a lot of lessons for the followers such as patience and not complaints. Followers should have tolerance and courtesy even to their enemies. We should not just condemn our enemies in haste. The followers of Christ should be seen walking with Jesus, knowing and living the scriptures, participating in the community, engaging those who do not know Christ, and reproducing spiritual generations. However, our excuses are challenged by Jesus as in the case of the people they met on their way to Jerusalem. So also, today many potential followers of Christ are blinded by fear, insecurity, and lack of understanding.

These are serious issues affecting the followers of Christ today in our society. As followers of Christ we need to be determined in our resolve to follow Christ and not allow societal threats to affect our true followership. We should even prove to the society that we are true followers. Let us continue to show the virtues and conduct of the Lord Jesus Christ through the help of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER: Father, do not allow fear, insecurity and lack of understanding to derail me in my resolute to follow you in my life through Christ our Lord Amen.
