THE APOSTLES’ HOPE

TEXT:   2TIMOTHY 4:1-8

For the sake of the reward that awaits the apostles, Paul was asking Timothy to perform his duty as an evangelist with great diligence, constancy and faithfulness in the presence of God and Christ who will judge all men. As Christians, we are also enjoined to do the same and ready to speak the needed word, whether of correction, rebuke, or encouragement. Paul said that Timothy should follow and preach sound doctrine, not the types of doctrine based on what people want to hear because of their evil desires. (v.5)

As Christians and as workers we are expected to preach sound doctrines not the perverted doctrines that many are preaching today. They preach to suit their evil desires and evil agenda. They preach lies because the people are happy with them to cover up their sins.

A good apostle should be ready to speak the truth and be ready to endure hardship in discharging all the duties of the ministry of Jesus Christ in all situations. Paul was admonishing Christians to keep their heads in all situations just as he (Paul) kept the faith to be able to receive the crown of righteousness which the Lord will award to him and all true believers on the Day of Judgment.

Let us therefore examine ourselves on the way we think we are doing God’s work. Are we preaching the truth or are we compromising the truth for earthly gains, privileges, and praises to gain popularity at the expense of the real Gospel of Christ? Let us have a change of heart to be able to receive the crown of righteousness in the end.

PRAYER: Strengthen me oh God to be able to witness for you wherever I go in Jesus’ name. Amen.
