THE DISCIPLES’ HOPE

TEXT:  JOHN 14:1-19

The Lord Jesus was comforting the disciples after he had told them about his death. The disciples were worried, so he admonished them that they should not allow their hearts to be troubled. They should put their trust in God and Him also. He was going to prepare a place for the disciples; so that they could be with him. He also assured them that he was the way, the truth, and the life. ‘No one comes to the Father except through me’.

Thomas was honest and told the Lord, he did not understand. Though Thomas was known for doubting, he was also capable of devotion and courage. Jesus was talking about His second coming. He encouraged the disciples to believe in Him and the Father and that with faith the disciples could do even more miracles than he did. He told them to ask for anything in his name and it shall be done to glorify the Father. (v.14)

One other thing he told the disciples is that it is only when they obey his command that they truly love him. He then promised them a counselor that would be with them forever. The spirit of truth is the Holy Spirit which guides the disciples in their day-to-day activities. He was getting the disciples prepared for the challenges they would face after he had gone.

As Christians, we should believe in Him and obey his commandments and, all these promises are ours too. The Lord Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us too. With faith in him; we could surpass him in performing miracles. Whatever we ask in his name shall be done and in the end, we shall be where he is.

PRAYER: Let my love for you grow higher and I will always obey your commands.
