TEXT: LUKE 2:1-7

      The Bible says, “There is nothing new under heaven.” Head counting has been in existence long before the period of Caesar Augustus. The time of head counting, known today as census, is always a busy period where previously empty houses are filled with people. This is because everybody would want to identify himself with his people in his/her own town. Do you love your town/village or city? What is your contribution to its development? Joseph and his betrothed wife were part of the people who loved their own town and, in obedience to the instruction given by the Emperor, went to be counted there. It was at this period that Jesus, a special and divine child from God, as prophesied, was born. He (Jesus) was counted as a citizen of His own earthly town (Bethlehem). As you are encouraged to associate yourself with your town mates here on earth, you should not forget your heavenly home, the reason why Jesus was born. Read Philippians 3:17-21.
