TEXT: PROVERBS 4:13-17
Joseph’s feeing from Potiphar’s wife’s invitation to sin should be our example (Gen 39:8-9). Fleeing may sometimes seem to be cowardly, but discretion is the better part of velour. Paul’s epistles are full of wise counsel as to what Christians (especially, but & not limited to the youth), should avoid and flee from. A few examples for discussions:
Rom. 16:17-avoid errant teachers 2Tim, 2:16- Avoid godless chatter
1Cor: 6:9,10- Flee idolatry 2Tim, 2,22- Flee evil desire of youth
1 Cor10:14 Away with adultery 2Tim, 2,33 Avoid foolish &stupid arguments
1 Tim 6:20- Be careful about riches Tit 3:9- avoid foolish controversies 1 Tim 6:20- Avoid useless talk
Ps, 34:14- Do good seek & pursue peace Ps, 37:3- Trust in the Lord and do good Lk, 6:35- Love your enemies (also Rom 13:3:Gal 6:10 1 Tim 6:18), Heb 13:16- And don’t forget to do good, Jas 4:17 – It is sin not do the good you know to do Ps I verse 1-3 pronounces blessings on the righteous man (the man who flees evil and does good) and the posture and position of such a man. On the country, the way (and the person) of the evil will perish (Ps 1 v6 ). How do we stay away from evil? By meditating constantly on the word of God, and by empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER: Our dear Lord, and savior, you lived in this world and yet did not sin. Help us to desire and accept the Holy Spirit’s empowerment to follow your example always. We ask this for your own name’s
sake. Amen.
