TEXT: PSALM 74:1-23
Psalm 74 represent a community’s lament over the destruction of the temple which symbolizes the presence of God; by the Babylonians in the destructions Jerusalem and the temple were burned in a situation that depicts the withdrawal of God’s hand in their defense. Vs 12 however shows clearly that great as the havoc wrought by the enemy, the salvation and deliverance previously given by God’s mightier.
In vs 9 the people attributed the calamity to the absence of a prophet whom God could have sent to warm them of imminent attacks or give directives on how to overcome the attackers. This is similar to what we experience in some parts of this country where churches are razed down and Christians are killed as if our God is angry with us and there is no prophet to foresees this and warn us! Many worshippers and scattered, homeless and sort of helpless. Yet the cause of believers is also God’s cause and He will surely come to our rescue.
PRAYER: Deliver us, Lord from the hands of our persecution.
