TEXT: GENESIS 2:1-9.
From our text, precisely 2:7 states that “The Lord formed a man from the dust of the earth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” With the rest of creation, God simply spoke things into existence. But when it comes to making a man, God did something different. Three observations can be made from the way God made man. First, the fact that man was created from dust makes him unique among all of God’s creation. Human life is made up of the “dust of the earth” which is God’s very breathe. Man is a unique combination of earthly, natural material and life giving power from God Himself. This manner depicts the importance and value of human life. Secondly, the use of dust suggests a certain lowliness; a humble substance. Thus, the glory of man is “God been revealed in the dust.” This dust must live in constant dependence on God and in due course this returns to where it belonged while the spirit departs as well. Thirdly, the literal way the passage puts man’s creation from the dust of the earth puts him in a place of significance above all the others. Man the crown of God’s creation should know that he has terminal date.
